Q: How do I find my personal style? My friends always look so unique and cool.

A: Ah, yes – this old chestnut. Everyone else looks so individual, and you’re out here struggling to figure out how to imitate them.

Look, Marissa. I’m sorry to be the one to break it to you, but you’re committing the rookie error of trying to become more yourself by taking cues from others. Can you see the logical misstep you’re taking? If not, I’m afraid there’s not much that can be done for you, and you’re doomed to appear basic for the rest of your days. However, if you are able to comprehend this, then the prognosis is good – you’re well on your way to having style.
