Peace on Mars

How long do you think it will be before we’re all living on Mars? I daydream about the future colonies all the time. When they make the call for people to take a rocket to that little red planet, I’ll be first in line. I’ve already got a conveyancing firm around Elwood in mind, just in case they don’t give us much notice before leaving.

What kind of jobs do you think they’ll have on Mars? I’m hoping to be a potato farmer. Ever since I saw that movie, ‘The Mars Man’, I’ve known how important that job is going to be. I suppose that’s the only thing we’ll eat on Mars. We’ll be like the Irish all over again. At least now we’ve invented deep fryers.

Maybe, far in the future, when most of humanity has migrated to Mars, we’ll even get the property business up and running there. What would it be like to do conveyancing and settlement on Mars? Would it be harder than back on Earth? Also, I wonder if houses on Mars will be cheaper. I hope so because I don’t have a lot of money at the moment. If they want me to pay for my own accommodation, we might have a problem.

I’ve heard that the first people to go there will actually get paid to do it, though. That would be my dream job. It’d be like getting paid to play video games. I was going to do it for free anyway, but if you’ll give me money, I won’t complain about it.

People give me weird looks when I tell them I’m going to Mars. I guess most of them don’t realise how well planned out I have it. They think it’s just a fantasy, but I’m serious. Maybe there I’ll finally be able to get some peace and quiet. That’s all I’ve ever wanted, really.
